Single line
From KiteWiki
Single line kites are the first thing people think of when the word 'kite' is mentioned, usualy conjuring up the image of a small child running along with a diamond shaped kite trailing ribbons. There are actually quite an array of kites in this category, starting with the simple diamond shape to birds, aeroplanes, box and pretty much any design you can think of.
Single line kites were the earliest type of kite, invented by the chinese as weapons, they would tie explosives to the kite and fly them over the enemy. They have now developed from simple decorative fun kites to stunt kites, fighting kites, record breaking high flying kites and massive custom shaped festival kites.
Flying single line kites is relatively simple, being only one line, you just need some wind, and a winder to let out the line, generally the kite will just keep rising straight up, but if you give a little tug on the line, you create an unstable kite, which tries to fall, then catches the wind again, with practise you can spin them and loop the loop.
