Safety Systems protect the user in the event that something unexpected happens which could lead, or has led to the flier becoming out of control or putting himself at danger.

Safety systems are very important, particularly if the flier is using a captive system or harness.

The simplest form of safety system will simply release the kite.

Slightly more complex systems allow the kite to be initially retained on a leash (primary safety) and finally completely released (secondary safety).

The simplest form of safety system for four line kites are known as Kite Killers.
