The power lines or main lines are the main lines that connect you to your kite and carry the majority of the pulling force. Where line strengths are not equal in a line set, these will usually be the thicker and stronger lines.

Fixed bridle kites

For a fixed bridle kite, the power lines will be the lines that connect to the bridles that connect to the leading edge of the kite, as well as some additional rows of bridle attachments further from the leading edge. Compare these to the brake lines that connect to the bridles on the trailing edge of the kite.

For fixed bridle kites flown on handles, the power lines connect to the top part of the handle via the power line leaders. The brake lines connect to the bottom of the handles via the brake line leaders.

For fixed bridle kites flown on a bar, the power lines connect to the ends of the bar via the power line leaders. The brake lines usually connect via the brake line leaders to a basic kite killer, so that there is little brake line tension in normal flight.

Depower foil kites

For a depower foil, the main lines connect via a pulley speed system mostly to the centre and front of the kite. Compare these to the back lines that mostly connect to the rear and edges of the kite and are used to steer the kite.

For depower foils the main lines normally connect to the depower rope that goes through a hole in the centre of the depower bar and on to the chicken loop, with the back lines connected to the ends of the depower bar.

LEI kites

For LEI kites, the power lines are usually referred to as the front lines or main lines. These connect to the leading edge of the kite, and to the depower rope and chicken loop at the bar end.

Conversly the back lines connect to the trailing edge of the kite, and to the bar ends of the depower bar.
